THE Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has introduced new free charging facilities for mobile devices in public areas.

The new charging lockers, that can charge up to 16 personal devices at any one time, are being introduced in the main emergency department (ED), children’s ED, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), Adult Assessment Unit (AAU), the main entrance, Maternity Ward, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) parents’ room, Alexandra Day Stay Unit (ADSU) and Eye Unit waiting rooms.

Lockers are also being introduced at St Margaret’s Hospital outpatients’ department and near the café at Herts and Essex Hospital.

Users simply enter a four-digit code of their own choosing and connectors include lightning, USB-C and USB-Micro to accommodate the majority of mobile device types. The lockers are used at the user’s own risk.

Charging facilities are also being installed in staff areas to ensure trust issued devices can be charged easily whilst people are on duty.

Jeffrey Wood, deputy director of ICT at The Princess Alexandra NHS Trust (PAHT) said: “We live in a society that is becoming increasingly reliant on mobile digital technology, and we understand how important it is for visitors and patients to have access to charging facilities when visiting our hospitals, particularly when finding themselves at our hospitals unexpectedly.

“The new charging lockers are free to use, putting our patients at the heart of all we do and improving user experience. We hope they will be put to good use, enabling our patients and visitors to charge their mobile devices with ease.”

Whilst this is good thing.. more importantly why don't you make the car parking free at the same time.

Yes i agree usually park in Wych elm but seems a bit dodgy in there these days!!

These things normally cost about £2-2.5K, but I imagine that an organisation that thought that if was acceptable for a few senior staff to to spend 58K on a trip to Las Vegas probably spent considerably more on this gimmick - Focus on the important stuff PAH and when you have your house in order, then you can spend on frivolities.

Is the car park possibly privately owned.
